She mixes leisure and work in an artful way
and plays her Bridge with conviction and speed.
Her accomplishments are many, indeed more than I can say;
perhaps a restive follower and quite content to lead.

Her members at Fownhope have come to admire
the way she organises our festive occasions.
Quite often with Ken, she works to conspire
or cater perhaps, the most eatable of luncheons.

But there is more than this to chairing a bridge club well.
There’s the enthusiasm and energy to inspire support;
there’s the leadership required to make things jell
and yet still remain just Heather, a jolly good sport.

Yes, it is Heather Brace of whom I chunter in hesitant rhyme.
Her spell as Chair is over and we can express our thanks
for all that she has spent for us in energy and time.
Now let’s welcome her back to our appreciative ranks.

For Heather’s retirement from the chairmanship at Fownhope Bridge Club’s AGM on February 22nd, 2012
