I have just heard it say,
That it is National Poetry Day today.
But what use are literate lines,
In these uncertain and chaotic times?
As a sensible reaction, what could possibly be worse,
Than some incoherent scraps of casual verse?

Our purpose must be to beat this infection,
Helping the bereaved to manage their loss and dejection.
The elderly must be encouraged to remain islanded and calm,
While society seeks the right balance of treatment and balm.
Then some day, some day soon, the doors will open again,
And we can thank the stars that we have remained alive and sane.
